This summer Pine Hills Review wants to make like Robin Sparkles and go to the mall!

“Whoever said money can’t buy happiness simply didn’t know where to go shopping.”
― Bo Derek (we think)
At Pine Hills Review, we’re interested in the intersections of shopping, art, and community.
And that’s why we’re holding space for our next special feature: Malls. All types of malls are welcome.
Here are some ideas to give you a sense of what we’re looking for:
- Have a short story about working retail and how consumerism is soul-sucking (perhaps, even literally)?
- Need to indulge in some nostalgia and reminiscence about your local mall (maybe with a dash of commentary disappearing ‘third places’) in a personal essay?
- Do you want to share some poetry about exploring a dead mall?
- Want to showcase any visual art and/or photography that capture the vibes of your local strip mall?
Submission Deadline: Remember to meet us at the food court and submit before April 30 May 31.
To submit, please put ‘Mall Feature:‘ in your subject line when submitting. Otherwise, our regular submission guidelines apply. For this feature, we are strongly encouraging accompanying artwork/photography from submitters alongside text submissions.
The Mall Feature will be published and open for business on 10 a.m., on Sept. 1.
